Carvoeiro shopping and the greater Algarve region is a great deal of fun for every kind of shopper. If you seek international brands, local finds, or just something different to remember your trip by, shopping centers and retail parks abound. From modern complexes with fashion outlets to marketplaces filled with local handicrafts, a bit of everything can be found here. This is a guide to some of the not-so-popular shopping places around Carvoeiro that offer an exciting shopping experience for visitors and locals.

Best Places to Shop Near Carvoeiro in the Algarve


1. Aqua Portimão


Where: Center of Portimão


Directions: To reach Aqua Portimão from Carvoeiro, drive to Lagoa and take the left onto the EN125. Next, cross the new bridge and take the Portimão exit. Thereafter, further straight over the roundabout near the hospital to the next roundabout where Aqua Portimão will be on your right ahead.


What to Expect: Aqua Portimão, a partially open-air shopping centre inaugurated in 2011, is one of the largest and most adored shopping centres in the Algarve region. The centre possesses 117 shops situated on three levels, so it has everything a shopper might desire. International brands like H&M and Primark find their place among huge toy stores, shoe stores, clothing boutiques, and a Jumbo supermarket.


The food court in Aqua Portimão offers many options, from fast food to a kebab restaurant and a fascinating place where everything is served in a cone! The mall works every day from 9 in the morning until midnight and has free parking for 1,800 vehicles. Therefore, this mall will become easily accessible to everyone.


2. Portimão Retail Center

Where: Central Portimão


Portimão Retail Center is much quieter, but with its own pleasant shopping experience. This retail park is full of small specialty shops in a way that makes it even more fascinating. Here, shoppers will find exclusive products from internationally renowned chains such as C&A, a huge Brinka toy store, and one of the largest Worten electronics stores in the area. The centre also includes a spacious Sports Zone for enthusiasts searching for sporting goods and accessories. With its offbeat location and one-of-a-kind offerings, the center is great for those in search of hidden retail gems, away from the mainstream crowd.


3. Centro Comercial Portimão


Where: Central Portimão


Directions: From Carvoeiro, take the left at Lagoa onto the EN125. After the new bridge, take a right into Portimão, go past the hospital entrance, and go down towards the lower tunnel. Cross the first roundabout, and the centre will sit on the left-hand side.


What to expect: Centro Comercial Portimão was once a popular shopping destination. Despite some of its features being a little worn out, the centre continues to charm with the presence of its large Continente, assorted small shops, a large Sports Zone, and a further electronics store, Worten. The centre also sports a good restaurants court and is very popular around town, a popular cinema spot. Several films are released in their original English versions (VO), making this place more attractive for movie lovers to watch the most recent ones. Besides, ask for the release plan and have some fun in the cinema; it is worth it.


4. Algarve Shopping


Where: Guia


Directions: From Carvoeiro, drive to Lagoa and take a right onto EN125. Pass Alcantarilha, carry on past Zoomarine, and then turn right into the shopping centre.


What to Expect: Algarve Shopping Centre is a big shopping centre in Guia, known for its many shops and amenities. In winter, it opens 9:00 am-11:00 pm and until midnight in summer. Algarve Shopping has a big Continente supermarket, a large food court, and a multiplex cinema. The cinema mostly runs movies in original English versions (void)—good news indeed if you like to watch films in English. Shops inside the centre include Fnac (dealing in books, music, and electronics), Zara, The Body Shop, and many stand-alone boutiques. Algarve Shopping has spacious free underground parking, which is good news for visitors.


5. Algarve Shopping Retail Park


What to Expect: The retail park is directly across from the shopping centre, which comprises larger stores such as Leroy Merlin (for DIY enthusiasts) and Makro. If you are looking for sporting goods or athleisure, the Nike store at the retail park would be worth a visit, as many offers occur throughout the year. The retail park also incorporates an Iceland supermarket for British groceries, which is ideal for any expat or person after familiar UK goods.


6. Forum Algarve


Where: Faro

Directions: From A22 or EN125 to Faro, keep going straight until you find Forum Algarve on your left. From thereon, follow the signs.


What to Expect: Forum Algarve is the Algarve shopping centre with the most years in the world; even so, it remains an immensely popular shopping destination among locals and tourists.


Boasting 119 stores, including a Jumbo supermarket, the centre covers a lot of retail ground. Aside from the fashion and accessory stores, Forum Algarve has a cinema for watching recent movies, including some in English. To get the current movie timetable, click here.


7. Ria Shopping Olhão


Where: Olhão

Directions: Ria Shopping is easily accessible from the EN125 and well-signposted.


What to Expect: Located just 10 km from Faro, Ria Shopping Olhão is a relatively minor shopping centre offering a more relaxed local feel. This shopping centre may not boast the same level of luxury as others in the Algarve, but it is secured with a decent selection of shops. Some lovely local restaurants serve seafood dishes in its food hall, making it a perfect place to refuel after all that shopping. A multiplex cinema is also in there for movie lovers. 8. Gran Plaza Tavira


Where: Outskirts of Tavira


Directions: Gran Plaza is located on the east side of Tavira, along Rua do Vale do Caranguejo. There follow the signs from Tavira centre.


What to Expect: Gran Plaza is a modern shopping centre with 105 shops, including a sizeable Continent supermarket and a Sports Zone. The gorgeous terrace with breathtaking views that are perfect for relaxing after shopping makes Gran Plaza like no other. In addition, there are fashion stores, among them five-screen cinemas. 9. Supermarkets Near Carvoeiro


Here are a few supermarket stores near Carvoeiro for those wishing to buy groceries or some goodies. Intermarché is located just out of the village on the road to Lagoa, while a Lidl Plus exists closer to the new roundabout closer to Lagoa.


Larger retailers like Modelo and Continente in Silves and Guia offer a more extensive selection of products and more operating hours, especially during the peak of the tourist season. These supermarkets are usually closed by 1 pm on Sundays and bank holidays. Still, they are open longer during the summer; some are open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.



Carvoeiro shopping has something for everyone: large shopping malls like Aqua Portimão and Algarve Shopping and smaller shopping local centres like Ria Shopping and Forum Algarve. Be it global brands, local artisans' products, or day-to-day necessities, there are many shops and outlets for all types and likes.
