Where to Find Praia de Faro?


Ilha de Faro is actually where Praia de Faro is situated. Ilh de Faro is a peninsula attached to the mainland with a tiny bridge. The beach lies ten kilometers far from the core part of Faro City; being the nearest beach to Faro Airport, it makes it easy for any traveler looking for pre-flight relaxation. Almost 9 kilometers long, the beach boasts panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean towards the west and calm waters of the lagoon Ria Formosa. It is a hot spot for the locals, especially during summer when people flock to relish a day at the beach.


How to go there


By Car: The simplest way to get to Praia de Faro is by car. Go to the airport from Faro; signs direct you to the beach. There is parking right by the beach, but it gets full really quickly at peak times. If no spots are available, park in the free lot close to the bridge, go to Ilha de Faro, and walk over the scenic bridge to the beach. Or just park along Avenida Nascente, where it's closer to the entrance.


Public transport: If you don't have your car, the bus is best suited for getting there. The buses 14 and 16 sustain frequent departures from the airport to the main Faro bus terminal, stopping at Praia de Faro. The bus ride takes about 20 minutes and costs about €2.30 approx. Please note that there is approximately a 200-meter walk to the beach where the bus stops after the bridge.


By Ferry: During summer, the ferry, which connects Faro to Ilha de Faro, departs from Porta Nova pier in Faro and runs close to the marina. The ferry journey takes about 30 minutes, providing breathtaking views of the lagoon.

Besides that, should you feel like taking a lagoon trip or a fast-paced water diving escapade, various rentals, including jet skis and kayaks, await you on the Ria Formosa side of the beach.


Sunsets: Perhaps the sunset is the most crucial event in Praia Faro. The beach faces west, so you wouldn't miss the sun displaying all its colors as it sets in the ocean.Experiencing a beautiful sunset at Praia Faro while sitting in a beachside cafe with a drink or sprawled on the sand works for you.


Beach Strolls: It is perfect for long beach walks with nearly 9 km of shoreline. Walk in the east direction (left when entering the beach). It will take you away from the crowds to lose yourself in the serene, natural surroundings. As you walk, pass dunes, al inlets, and quieter beach areas. And for the adventurous, it can take you as far as Barrinha at the eastern tip of the island.


Nude Beach: Ithas a private and unofficial nude beach section, which is located east of the central area. This area, though not formally designated, has begun to be known among the naturist community for peaceful sunbathing without crowds


Ria Formosa Exploration: Right behind the beach, here comes the Ria Formosa Natural Park, a preserved wetland with lots of wildlife. The saltwater lagoons and sandbanks of the park are houses for migrating birds, while birdwatching in these areas has become one of the most popular activities. In addition, traditional fishermen can be found in the mudflats harvesting shellfish at low tide. Eco-friendly boat tours are extra offerings for interested audiences who want a more guided experience.
